After a break of several years, the Islay distillery reintroduces the popular whisky to its portfolio

Fans of the iconic Islay distillery Laphroaig will be pleased to hear the news: Laphroaig 18 Years is back as a new edition and ia already available in the Whisky.de online shop.

The shortage of long-matured whisky in the warehouses led Laphroaig in 2015 to the decision to stop producing the popular single malt and gradually phase it out on the market. However, demand for it has not diminished and so the company is now delighted to be able to present the successor to the "old" Laphroaig 18 Years in a white tin - now in a rectangular carton.

Sweet smokiness and complexity

18 years of maturation in ex-bourbon casks give this smoky single malt complexity and depth, a harmonious balance of flavours and an oily texture. It is bottled without chill-filtration and at 48% alcohol by volume.

“The Laphroaig 18-Year-Old was a much-loved whisky, and so after nearly ten years we’re excited to bring back this age statement. Friends can expect to enjoy Laphroaig’s iconic sweet smokiness, a manifestation of our boldness of spirit, as well as freshly cut leather and sunbaked seaweed on the nose and a fruity yet spicy blend of orange, honey, ginger and tobacco on the palate," said Teddy Joseph, Global Brand Ambassador at Laphroaig.

Tasting notes for the Laphroaig 18 Year Old

Nose: Sweet, vanilla and soft toffee against delicate notes of soft gooseberry fruit, Bramley apples, sweet cinnamon and white sugar sprinkled over a freshly baked apple tart. The olfactory experience is further enhanced by notes of freshly cut leather, runny honey, smoked ham and peaty hints of carbolic soap and sun-dried seaweed washed up on the seashore.

Palate: Oily, sweet and full-bodied. Oranges and nectarines, herbal tones of freshly cut mint, floral characters of heather honey and subtle spice of ginger, set against elegant peaty notes of iodine, TCP and fresh tobacco leaves.

Finish: Sweet, rich, with a long and savoury smoky finish.
