New Tomintoul Wood Finishes Series available

Tomintoul stands for whisky with a soft, malty character that is not only popular with newcomers to single malt. Long-time whisky connoisseurs also appreciate it as an uncomplicated after-work dram or as a start to a whisky evening.

For more than 20 years, Master Distiller Robert Fleming has been the head of the Tomintoul Distillery, founded in 1964 in the Cairngorms. Whisky is in his blood, as he is a fourth-generation distiller. To mark the start of Tomintoul's cooperation with the German distributor Kirsch Import, Robert Fleming has launched a new whisky series that presents whisky lovers a wide variety of flavours.

The seven small-batch bottlings offer a tasteful walk through the Tomintoul cask warehouse: All single malts underwent a basic maturation in bourbon casks before they received finishes in different casks. The importer's press release does not reveal the length of the maturation and the finishing time, but it describes the type of finishes and the aromatic characters that these new Tomintoul Wood Finishes offer. They were bottled at 40% vol. and therefore chill-filtered. All editions show up in natural colour.

Tomintoul Caribbean Rum Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, Caribbean Rum Casks (Finish).

Nose: Fresh and lively with aromas of raspberry blossom, coconut oil, Parma violets and Danish pastry.

Palate: Layers of muscovado sugar, yeast rolls with icing and toffee, combined with caramel biscuits (Lotus Biscoff), nougat and coconut cream.

Finish: Sweet caramel and chocolate eclairs that fade into a warming, lingering spice cake flavour.

Tomintoul Cognac Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, Cognac Casks (Finish).

Nose: Light and stimulating with aromas of chestnut, lemon zest, blossom honey and amaretti biscuits with hints of chamomile and fennel.

Palate: Sweet choux pastry and whipped cream mingle with sugared almonds, caramel, sultanas and tobacco.

Finish: Layers of white chocolate, Christmas cake (panettone) and nutmeg merging into warming ginger spices.

Tomintoul Merlot Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, Merlot Wine Casks (Finish).

Nose: Aromatic notes of fruit blossom and summer berries, mixed with cinnamon buns, acacia honey and candied fruit peel.

Palate: Sweet layers of sour cherry jam, bread pudding with berries and redcurrant jam, underpinned with tobacco spices and cocoa powder.

Finish: Pleasant cake spices and cappuccino foam that fades into shortbread with almond filling and toasted pecans.

Tomintoul Pinot Noir Cask Finish

Cask type: American Oak Bourbon casks, Pinot Noir Wine casks (finish).

Nose: A bouquet of summer berries and red grapes combined with puff pastry, baking spices and salted caramel.

Palate: Sweet layers of baked strawberries, liquorice sweets with redcurrant flavour, glacé cherries and oatmeal biscuits, structured with tobacco and oak spice.

Finish: Warming cloves and wood spices mingle with blackberries, vanilla beans and ginger biscuits.

Tomintoul Tawny Port Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, Tawny Port Casks (Finish).

Nose: Luscious berry fruits, blackberry jam and dark chocolate, underpinned with nutmeg and cherry liqueur.

Palate: An abundance of blackcurrants, blueberries and Black Forest cake, underpinned with pleasant oak spices and mocha coffee.

Finish: Maraschino cherries and thick jam, merging into cloves and cinnamon.

Tomintoul Pedro Ximénez Sherry Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, Pedro Ximénez Sherry Casks (Finish).

Nose: Aromas of sweet syrup and dried figs mixed with malt bread, sultanas and baking spices.

Palate: Layers of fruitcake and banana bread, followed by dates filled with marzipan, toasted walnuts and sultanas with hints of cloves and cinnamon.

Finish: Pleasant notes of Danish pastry, cocoa powder and sponge cake with syrup, leading to a warming oak and tobacco note.

Tomintoul White Port Cask Finish

Cask types: American Oak Bourbon Casks, White Port Casks (Finish).

Nose: Tangy stone fruit and lychees mingle with lemon cake, vanilla bean and ginger biscuits.

Palate: Layers of Danish pastry with apricots, poached pears and apple tart, combined with black coffee, buttery malt and baking spices.

Finish: Sweet and warming with notes of sponge cake roll and strawberry trifle sweetness merging into mocha and roasted nuts.
