The popular blended malt returned into the range of Johnnie Walker

The world of Johnnie Walker is a colorful one and includes Red Label, Double Black, Gold, Platinum and Johnnie Walker Blue Label. One color is sorely missed by the whisky fans since 2012: In that year Diageo stopped the distribution of Johnny Walker Green Label that had been released in 2005. Different to all other Johnnie Walker releases the Green Label is not a blended whisky but a blended malt. That means this Scotch doesn’t contain grain whisky but was only blended from single malts.

Diageo and the consumer trends

The stock had soon be sold, the fans protested and called for the relaunch of Johnnie Walker Green Label. But it wasn’t only due to the demand of some customers but also to the worldwide increasing sales figures of premium blends that the Green Label is available again.

Expressive single malts for complex blended malt

The friends of whisky with an age statement can be lucky because it is retained for the Johnnie Walker Green Label: “Aged 15 Years” can be read on the label. According to statements of the company the aromatic profile of the Green Label is not at least characterized by the single malts Talisker, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Caol Ila. “The individual malt characteristics of the mature malt whiskies in Johnnie Walker Green Label are perfectly balanced, bringing intense aromas of crisp cut grass and fresh fruit with wood smoke, pepper, deep vanilla and sandalwood and a depth of character that just isn’t possible from one malt whisky alone”, Jim Beveridge, Johnnie Walker Master Blender, said.
