Special autumn highlight from Islay: Laphroaig 30 Years Old
Three decades in Bourbon barrels
Even big fans of the Islay distillery Laphroaig probably won’t have a Laphroaig 30 Years Old in the glass very often. Only few casks are granted the opportunity to stay in the warehouses for three full decades. The casks that were batched for this Laphroaig 30 yo benefitted from this long maturation said Master Distiller John Campbell and talks about great one-of-a-kind moments of pleasure. So let’s look forward to the launch of this limited edition and hope many of us can be able to enjoy at least a dram of this special bottling. Price? We don’t know yet….
30 years collecting aromas
The Laphroaig 30 Years Old will be launched in September. To create this edition of single malt only whisky from Bourbon barrels were batched and now bottled with 53.5 % ABV. Because of the long maturation time the whisky can be expected to be very mellow and deeply aromatic as we are used to from former 30 years old Laphroaigs. But they had been batched using an amount of Sherry casks while in connection with this Laphroaig 30 Years Old only Bourbon barrels are mentioned.
The official tasting notes for the Laphroaig 30 Years Old

Color: pale gold Nose: A synergy of mandarins and mango round up the aromas of burnt almonds and coconut. Peat oils, smelling like cedars, boxberry and smoky sage give this premium whisky its distinctive and characteristic flavor. A drop of water sets hints of honey and apricot free.
Palate: wonderful oily, the aroma of orange peels, vanilla and coriander merges with those of wild ginseng and cigar.
Finish: long and complex with hints of stone fruits and green, hand rolled tobacco.
