Douglas Laing presents Strathearn Inaugural Bottling

The first edition was made from 32 casks

The small Strathearn Distillery in Perthshire, Scotland, has been owned by the family business Douglas Laing & Co. since 2019. Previously known as an independent bottler for brands such as Big Peat, Scallywag, the Provenance and Old Particular series, Douglas Laing has now also entered the whisky producer's arena. With today's launch of the Strathearn Inaugural Bottling (also available at Whisky.de), Douglas Laing is giving the starting signal for the sale of their Strathearn Single Malt Whisky.

32 casks were selected for this Strathearn Inaugural Bottling. It is a combination of ex-bourbon casks, ex-sherry casks and new casks (virgin oak). Some of these casks were already in the warehouse when Douglas Laing took over the distillery in 2019 which was founded by Tony Reeman-Clark in 2013. Also whisky that has been produced since then under the ownership of Douglas Laing was used for this first edition.

Whisky is made by hand using traditional methods at Strathearn, producing just enough alcohol to fill one cask per day. Only malt from the Maris Otter barley variety is used. It is characterised by a long fermentation period of 144 hours and distillation in small alambic stills from Portugal.

Strathearn Inaugural Bottling was bottled without chill-filtering and in natural colour at 50% ABV. "On the taste, the syrupy palate coats the mouth in sweet notes of honey, buttercream, dried apricots with a hint of spice. The warming finish is reminiscent of home baking and indulgent buttery oat biscuits that invite you back for another sip,"  according to Douglas Laing.
