Finlaggan Old Reserve

Finlaggan Old Reserve is a single malt distilled on Islay, with the distillery remaining a secret. The single malt was named after Loch Finlaggan, a lake on the island of Islay. Centuries ago, the Lord of the Isles ruled Scotland from Finlaggan Castle. In contrast to its younger brother Original, the Old Reserve contains older casks and the proportion of fresh bourbon casks is also slightly higher: 50% first-fill bourbon casks are married to around 45% refilled bourbon casks and 5% sherry casks.

Nosing: Peat Smoke Ham
Nice smoke brings the smell of freshly smoked ham. Floral and grainy.

Taste: Peat Smoke Vanilla Caramel
Little sweetness comes through intense smoke. Definitielly more dry than for example Highland Park 10. Wood and nutmeg gives nice spicyness in mouth. Mentioned sweetness is a bit problematic for me as I cannot identify it. It's a bit sugary sweet, but not an ordinary white sugar. It's a bit more to the caramel side for me.

Finish: Ham Salt Oak Nutmeg
Smoky. Briny aftertaste sats on a tongue. Spicy wood.

Comment:
Nice whisky for those who like smoke. It's not really complex, quite affordable as a sipping whisky. For me quite good choice for the second attempt to a smoky whisky (as a first I'd point to the Highland Park 10).
Well for me it's 3 out of 5.
