Nosing:
Definite sherry influence on the nose. Very fresh and fruity - apples and oranges. Quite sweet.
Taste:
Measured arrival. Still sweet and a bit fruity, but not nearly as much as the nose suggests. Light and malty with sweet spices - nutmeg and cinnamon. If the nose was dominated by the sherry casks, the palate is all about the bourbon wood.
Finish:
Oaky, but not bitter. Still malty and some residual sweetness. Medium to short length.
Comment:
This is one of the most readily available Balvenies and I can see why. It is extremely approachable and I'd say it would be an excellent malt for introducing people into whisky. The nose is great and the palate is fine though the finish is a little lacking. I'd have loved to see this bottled at a slightly higher ABV, maybe 43 or 46 to really give the flavour some punch. Still, Its solid stuff and is a good value for the quality on show.
