Mortlach 16 Years Distiller's Dram

The Mortlach distillery is known for its unordinary distillation process, which was created by Alexander Cowie in the 19th century. The spirit is led through six differently formed pot stills, cut off by pipe bends several times and is distilled 2,81 times. The taste of the 'Beast of the Dufftown' is especially strong and full-bodied. In 2018, Diageo repositioned the brand with the bottlings being less pricy. There was a 16 year old bottling in 1992. This is a new edition. 100% Sherry cask maturation.

The Beast of Dufftown in its new cloak - boy, that rebranding was so desperately needed. To hell with Mortlach's ultra-premium deluxe image! On the nose, blood oranges, cloves and heather jump at you. Raspberries, sage and honey follow shortly after, and there is an earthy note creeping in. Full-bodied and intense, the palate guides you through the flavor wheel: fruity, bitter and sour, then savory, sweet and slightly dry. Tangerine, peppermint and a touch of stout escort the long and cask-dominated finish. A great comeback of a characterful Speysider.
