All tasting notes
Powerful nose, clearly sherry matured, but much more on the nutty end of the sherry spectrum than fruity. There's a huge amount of spice on this nose, clove and nutmeg particularly.
Taste:
Medium sweet arrival, immediately, the spicy notes are back, dark chocolate and black coffee. Mixed dried fruits.
Finish:
Medium to long, dark dried fruits. Almost burnt raisin like you get on the outside of a fruit cake. Still lots of oak spiciness. Some coffee notes remain.
Comment:
This has definitely been sitting in some very active sherry casks. It really doesn't take any prisoners on the flavour front. The oak spiciness almost reminds me of some bourbons, but the cask influence is clearly sherry. There's a lot to like here, although the finish feels like it could improve with another couple of years, its still a bit rowdy. It's also a little pricey, but as a characterful well made sherried malt it's definitely worth trying.
